SOULS Brunch: AaRC Collections

Sisters Optimistically Uplifted in Love, Spiritually!

PictureOne word to describe this event would be, AMAZING. Adrienne facilitated a very safe and secure space for us to be vulnerable and to speak from our hearts. We all were asked to right down a question or statement that was on our hearts, we then placed them in a bowl. Each attendee was asked to pull a question from the bowl and then answer from our hearts. The questions and answers really gave me a feeling that every soul at there brunch was there for a special purpose.
Our Q&A ice breaker led us onto a multitude of conversations, from being a Black woman in Corporate America, right on down to balancing love and your career. The food was amazing and there were dranks, YES dranks! We sipped on mimosas and had a great time.

Do not miss the next SOULS Brunch, and if you have yet to meet Miss Adrienne Carter you are missing out. Adrienne is definitely a beacon of light and positive energy that you must experience for yourself.

U.S. Court Rules Dreadlock Ban During Hiring Process Is Legal

No Locs, No Headwraps, No peace and No damn justice.

A lawsuit was filed by the EEOC ( Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) on behalf of Chasity Jones, after having a job offer revoked due to her having Locs (dreadlocks).  The argument being that the decision was a violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964's Title VII. Long story short, they lost the case. The reasoning being that although Dreadlocks are culturally associated with race, they are a characteristic that is changeable. Although, locs are actually our hair in its most natural state.

Now that I have gotten that out of the way! Let me tell you how I really feel about this. Ready? Let’s go!

When I came across this article on Instagram, I laughed so loud and rolled my eyes. Isn't a shame that when you see acts of oppression and discrimination it does not even bother you anymore? You simply say here we go again. Just another backhanded slap in the face, and another moment that makes it ever so FUCKING clear that we are disliked from head to toe. This is actually the first situation I have been made aware of where human resources flat out said I do not like your hair so NO. Shit, at least she was honest?

As I am currently on my personal loc (dreadlock) journey I am upset, YES! However I am unmoved and not bothered. I will not stop my spiritual journey with the Universe and I will not be cutting my antennas off, PERIOD.

I say do not worry and do not let the oppressor change that you are. There are better opportunities awaiting Chasity Jones.

How do y'all feel about this?

I hope you all enjoyed the product review! I am actually beginning to have fun while creating these videos for you. Y'all don't know how much work it takes, but I wont complain. A little editing ain't hurt nobody.

Let's discuss why Head Wrap Wednesday is so very important to me and our culture. As Black women we are under constant scrutiny. We are often over- sexualized due to our natural curves. We are too often told that our natural hair is not suitable for Corporate America, and that a head wrap looks ghetto.

Public schools are now putting in to policy that natural hairstyles such has braids, fros and locs are not allowed. Pinellas County School District in Florida has a policy for " no head coverings" unless it is for religious purposes. The female students have been protesting by wearing headwraps every Wednesday, which they call Black Girls Wrap Wednesday.

Headwraps are apart of culture and i stand behind this and will be wearing a Headwrap every Wednesday in support. Although I usually wear them, I will make it a point to have one on every week on Wednesday.

Make sure you follow the movement and wear your wrap. Know that you are royalty know that you are a Queen and wear your Headwrap as you crown.
